About Us

MUMCo was founded in 1966 as the Monash University Light Opera Company (MULOC) and is one of the oldest clubs on campus at Monash University. The club mostly consists of current students at the university; however, anyone is welcome to join. We are focused on producing musicals to the highest standard within our means. At the same time, we place great importance on the social aspect of each production and aim to make every MUMCo experience as fun as possible.

Recent MUMCo productions include Sweeney Todd (2008), Urinetown (2007), Into The Woods (August 2006), Decade (May 2006), Jesus Christ Superstar (August 2005), The Wiz (2002), Little Shop of Horrors (November 2001), Pippin (April 2001), Celebration (November 2000), The World Goes ‘Round (April 2000), Working (November 1999) and Assassins (May 1999). Season 2002 included the club’s 35th anniversary concert in March. MUMCo has also produced two Australian premieres: Fritz Lang’s Metropolis in 1991 and Stephen Sondheim’s Anyone Can Whistle. The clubs is keen to hear from past MUMCo members in order to build up a comprehensive archive of the past 40 years.

As well as producing quality musical theatre, MUMCo makes group bookings to see pro and amateur shows and holds social events. Anyone interested in acting, singing, dancing, technical aspects, production processes, playing in a band or just having fun with great people should join!
